We are donating a new x-ray machine to Khandbari Hospital

This year we are donating a new x-ray machine to Khandbari Hospital.  This is the only hospital in the region of Sanqhuwasabha serving 150,000 people and has the one and only x-ray machine. The existing x-ray is on its last legs and when we visited in March 2012 it was clear that a replacement x-ray was top priority. We have purchased a new up to date x-ray and associated equipment which will provide all the needs of the hospital and will improve diagnosis and treatment for many patients. Delivery will be by 4wd along a steep and dusty track and the installation will be carried out by experts. There is already
a trained x-ray technician at the hospital so improvements will start straight away.
We are grateful to all those who have contributed to fund raising and particularly to the JPT charitable trust.  We are planning to hold a formal hand-over and dedication ceremony when we visit the hospital again in March 2013.

The next trek to Eastern Nepal will depart in late February 2013.  Three of our trustees will lead a group of trekkers to visit one of
our health posts and to Khandbari where we will officially hand over the new x-ray machine. We will trek three days from Lukla to the village of Gudel, crossing three high passes on the way. At Gudel we will visit the health post on a rest day before trekking a further four days to the town of Khandbari. We will also meet some former patients and plan medical treatment for other patients in need.  After a short flight from the airstrip at Tumlingtar we will have time for a bit of shopping and sightseeing in Kathmandu before returning home to the UK.

In January 2013 we are planning to take three school leaver volunteers to our region in Nepal to work in local schools for a month. They will be actively involved in the school activities, teaching English, computer science and running sporting activities. They will engage closely with the whole teaching staff and the local community. Watch out for their story here in future.
